Goal Setting

-Something you would like to achieve. It can be anything… going to the movies, walking the dog…

The RULES for goal setting are:

– beware of being too ambitious (important, but achievable / possible)

– it must be realistic for your situation

– it should be your own goal, YOU must choose your goals

– it must be something you can measure


Tips on goal setting:

  1. Regular monitoring of your progress is important – once a week if possible – keep a diary
  1. Always evaluate pain before and after the activity (VAS scale, numeric pain scale)
    (This is to adjust or correct interventions if needed)
  1. Link goals to daily activities, for example: family outings, assisting with household chores
  1. Have a reminder system in place
  1. It is about the small steps, each making a difference in itself
